Births
Births
Our purpose is to train community doulas in a manner accessible to everyone. Training is offered at an affordable rate and scholarship monies may be available to those who qualify. Classes are held over weekends so as not to interfere with weekly employment.
We aim to serve Rock Hill residents with the understanding that community doulas are one part of the solution to end the epidemic rates of maternal and infant mortality.
The graduates will be connected with underserved pregnant families. Doulas will meet their clients around their 6th month of pregnancy, conduct 2 home visits before the clients 38th week and 1 postpartum visit. Doulas will be trained in record keeping, hospital protocols, labor comfort measures, basic physiology of birth and encouraged to never stop learning. Doulas will be mentored through their first three births. The school will rely on community members to assist with mentoring and coaching. Paraprofessionals are included in our trainings as to ensure a well-rounded training.
Our vision is to train community members to be doulas. To equip them to be more deeply involved in the lives of underserved families. To then offer doula services to anyone living in Rock Hill that might otherwise not be able to afford such a service. To help end the epidemic of maternal/infant demise in the community and to decrease the rate of postpartum depression and c-sections as well as increase rates of breast feeding / chest feeding.
